Fans Back Then Knew it was Wrong
Again, take these with a grain of salt, obviously people could just say anything online and theres no proof behind any of their claims. It's likely that they were mixing just as much fiction with their facts . This is just to prove that people acknowledged this happened all the way back when they were still dating, before the facts were distorted by time and all their posts about their relationship were still up, and they all agreed that it was fucked up.
In these screenshots (2008), a fan comments that jeanae met pete on new years in 2002 (when she was 15), referencing his frequent posts on livejournal about her and how his tattoos relate to this date. The stuff about which songs are written about her is complete speculation and there’s no proof for that.
In this screenshot (2009) a fan states that pete and jeanae started dating when she was 15 and he was 23. They explain that people constantly making pedo jokes about pete was directly referencing this, because their relationship was common knowledge among fans. They also comment that everyone knew it was wrong back then, and reference pete’s repeated insults toward her for being “crazy” (which is to be expected from a mentally unstable teenager).
In these screenshots (originally 2008, reuploaded 2011), a fan tells the history of pete and jeanae’s relationship, also claiming it started in 2002 when she was 15.
It says that she used to come to his shows and she was a fan of his band and that’s how they met. This fan also acknowledges the creepiness of the age gap and discusses the toxicity and mutual cheating within the relationship (Again, i'm holding the grown man more responsible for that.)
it also references jeanae’s frequent posts about pete on livejournal and confirms that the 2005 fight where he crashed his car, punched in windows and had to be stopped by the police was with Jeanae. It also talks about how jeanae was harassed and insulted by his fans and how when the relationship ended he took her dog with him (evil! just kidding. kinda).
They talk about it being common knowledge among fans how young she was when they started dating, and how when they themself found out it “made them sick”.
They also reference a comment on jeanae’s livejournal posts about pete, telling her “you were completely robbed of your teenage years”.

The 2000s and 2010s are not ancient times, everyone thought this was fucked up. There's no excuse for Pete's actions and he likely knew what he was doing was wrong. FOB haters and fans alike would constantly call him “pedo pete” and joke about him needing more underage groupies. No, they still knew it was weird and wrong, they just didn’t really care to do anything about it. I have heard from older fans that pete and jeanae’s relationship was well known in the fanbase and they both posted about eachother constantly on livejournal. Of course there was also plenty of victim blaming and insulting Jeanae but most people thought it was extremely creepy how young she was when they started dating.
